This afternoon I found out that
the_dark_snack was admitted to the hospital with congestive heart failure. I had heard that phrase before, but I guess like many other people I assumed that "failure" = "failed". Not so much ... she went to the hospital seeking relief from breathing problems that were making her miserable not expecting to hear that her heart was misbehaving. They admitted her and put her in the Critical Care unit in what I was told was room 2310.
The phrase "Room 2310" is part of Community East's subtle plan to keep the riff-raff from invading their Critical Care unit. If you actually walk into the hospital looking for a room called 2310, you will be looking for a long, long time.
People in the know decode "2310" like this:
Green elevators
Third floor
Turn Right out of the elevator
Turn Right at the "No Cell Phones" sign
Room G210, on your right
Once you reach this room G210 you will be rewarded with a sign on the wall informing you that you have reached room 2310.
the_dark_snack is actually in somewhat better spirits than I have seen lately. ("Lately" mostly being times when she might have already been suffering from this, untreated.) Clearly she is a little upset over hearing the term "failure" in reference to her heart, but other than that she is the same the_dark_snack we all know and love. She is looking forward to being out of the hospital very soon...as would we all.
They had a regular TV on in front of her showing Law and Order and an LCD behind her graphing her heart and respiration. If it were me, I would rather have the heart and respiration panel in front of me. How often would I get to watch the "Stephen's Vital Signs Channel"? But that's just my personal preference seeing as I am a technophile and a hypochondriac.
I hope for a time very, very soon when the_dark_snack's vital signs are so regular and unremarkable that nobody needs to watch them.
